Profit Breakdown: Client’s Hair vs. Supplying Your Own
The Reality of Service-Only Income
When I first started, I thought I was doing clients a favor by letting them bring their own hair. Back in 2021, I was charging about $225 for a sew-in. Clients would walk in with bags of bundles they bought from Instagram vendors, paying $150+ per bundle and none of that revenue ever touched my business.
On paper, I was busy. In reality, I was leaving thousands of dollars on the table.
The Switch That Changed Everything
Fast forward to 2025: My baseline sew-in install starts at $325 and hair supply is no longer optional. Every client adds a bundle package directly through my booking site. That means I control the quality, the experience, and the profit.
It wasn’t an overnight change. When I first set this standard, I did lose a few clients who were loyal to their own vendors. But the bigger picture? I gained clients who valued convenience, consistency, and professionalism the kind who respect both the service and the brand behind it.
The Numbers: Side by Side
Here’s exactly what that switch looks like in profit:
Scenario 1: Client Brings Their Own Hair
- Service Price: $325
- Total Profit: $325
Scenario 2: You Supply the Hair (Bundle Packages)
-
Tier 1: 2 Bundles (starting at $299)
→ Service $325 + Hair $299 = $624 Total -
Tier 2: 3 Bundles (starting at $429)
→ Service $325 + Hair $429 = $754 Total -
Tier 3: 4 Bundles (starting at $529)
→ Service $325 + Hair $529 = $854 Total
Even at the lowest package, I almost double my profit from the exact same service.
Why Clients Don’t Push Back
Here’s the thing , your client doesn’t need the behind-the-scenes breakdown of service + hair cost. To them, it’s one seamless luxury experience: book, pay, show up.
The bundles, the install, the added time it takes me to work with longer or denser hair all of that is built into the price structure. What they see on the outside is consistency, convenience, and quality. That’s what makes the price feel worth it.
The Bigger Lesson for Stylists
If you’re nervous about “losing clients” by making this shift, I’ll tell you what I had to learn in 2021: be okay with losing some in order to gain more of the right ones.
Today, nobody questions whether they can bring their own bundles. The standard has been set. And that one decision to take control of the hair supply has changed my income, my brand, and the way clients experience my salon.
✨ This is why Luxe Pro Beauty Hub exists to give you a trusted, tested supply chain so you can step into this same shift without wasting money, time, or energy trying to figure it all out alone.
